Description
From Michigan City on the southern shores of Lake Michigan to the Straits of Mackinac at the northern tip of the lower peninsula there is beach after beach for the nature lover to enjoy. At about the halfway point, between Muskegon and Ludington, are the world famous Silver Lake Dunes. People come from half a continent away to race up and down the dunes in dune buggies. For those of more tranquil mind the drive out to Little Point Sable lighthouse is of more interest. The road to the lighthouse meanders along the tributary that joins Silver Lake to Lake Michigan, aptly named Silver Creek. I was driving ever so slowly out to the lighthouse in the Spring of 2010 when I spied a lovely reflection on the now pond-smooth waters of Silver Creek. I promptly parked my car and grabbed my medium format view camera on Gitzo tripod. I was confident that the Reala film I had in my film holder would rise to the challenge that lay before me, a high exposure latitude challenge that one faces when photographing a dark subject with bright sky reflecting off still water.
