Description
Along U.S. 2 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, just east of the little town of Epoufette, is the Cut River Bridge that overlooks the mouth of the Cut River Gorge. In early October of 2011 I was meandering west on U.S. 2, on my way to the ghost town of Fayette, when I crossed over the bridge and noticed an incredible scene of Fall foliage along the limestone gorge. I promptly stopped at the west side park, grabbed a couple of cameras, and walked the narrow pedestrian lane along the bridge. I saw Cut River Gorge 147 feet below with most of the Cut River concealed by the flowering Sugar Maples that line its banks and hang over, cathedral-like, the crystalline waters that empty into Lake Michigan. I snapped off this shot with my trusty Nikon.
