Artist's Description
I was working my way north to Miami along Overseas Highway 1 after a week long visit to my parents who lived in Marathon Florida. The road trip through the Florida Keys has one hopping from island to island over bridges on a charming but impractical two lane road. The northernmost town along the Keys is Key Largo which I entered on a beautiful April afternoon in 1989. My flight back to Michigan wasn’t for several hours and so I had the luxury of being in a meandering mood and exploring every little town I went through. In Florida Key towns I typically explore them by first going to the Atlantic side of town and then working my way to the Florida Bay side. On the Atlantic side my attention was grabbed by an abandoned wooden sailing ship that was weathering away and perched on terra firma but a short distance from the ocean. I got out of my rental car and walked around the veering vessel to find the best angle to capture the nifty image on my Tmax 100 film. I chose to have a nearby boxy...
