Description
Traverse City Michigan is located at the juncture of two peninsulas which form the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. Leelanau Peninsula is to the west and Mission Point Peninsula is to the east. On a cool October morning in 2014 I was on M-37 motoring north along Mission Point Peninsula with the simple goal of photographing northern Michigan’s autumn splendor. The Peninsula is peppered with orchards and wineries and on that metanoia morning Chateau Chantal Winery had a lighting that was especially soft and serene. This Old World inn overlooks Traverse Bay and is famous for its fine wine and attentive staff. As lovely as the bay is, I decided to angle my old view camera on Gitzo tripod to the north which meant that the bay was just out of sight to the right. In the foreground the vines still had their summer foliage while in the distance the trees were in full autumn regalia; a rugged old barn proudly stood in a clearing at the edge of the broadleaf forest.
