Artist's Description
The lazy hazy July afternoon found me in my old hometown of Lansing Michigan meandering around town checking out my old stomping grounds. I was heading north on Old 27 when my eye caught the incredible outdoor décor of a tattoo parlor. Always anxious to thumb my nose at the Kodachromies who put forth the nonsensical notion that one should only photograph in the ‘golden’ hours of early morning or late afternoon, I grabbed my medium format view camera with Reala film and found an angle of view that caught the kitschy glory of the ink lovers paradise. Unlike Kodachrome with its ridiculous five stop exposure latitude my Reala film with eight stop exposure latitude grabbed everything including shadow detail and the pinkish summer sky.
