Yeah...those were the days!!! I think I can actually remember back to 19 cents! What a great capture of times past!! A definite f/v from me!!!

Artist's Description

In 1984, just weeks after I had moved to southeast Michigan for a new job, I grabbed my Fujica camera and ventured out to the northwest suburbs of Detroit. On this lazy hazy Summer day I found myself meandering west along I 96. I was in what I call ‘Photographer’s Zen’, a level of consciousness wherein one is urged to be in certain places at certain times. With my mind feeling an overtone harmonic of the good times I’d had in Howell Michigan in the 1960’s, I took the Grand River Avenue exit just west of Lake Chemung. I continued motoring west and then, at the corner of Grand River and Latson Road my attention was grabbed by the machismo charm of an old abandoned gas station. I parked my ’76 Nova, grabbed my tripod mounted camera, and beheld the crumbling glory of a 1960’s Drake gas station. A plywood sign leaned against the now windowless gas station and read 24.9. That’s 24.9 cents a gallon!
