Beaver Island is the largest island in Lake Michigan and the central island in the Beaver Island archipelago. I had driven the road that circumnavigates the east side of the island many times but had never before noticed a weathered old barn on the inland side of the road. I was on my way to the elegant lighthouse on the south end of the island for a mid day photo shoot of the interior, but upon seeing the old barn, decided that I had to stop to photograph the gnarly gem. I quickly noticed the Dutch door and fell in love with the many shapes and contours of the withering wood. I used my 6 X 8 view camera on Gitzo tripod with T-max 100 film in the roll film holder. I liked the harsh mid day lighting and how the dark interior of the barn poked through an array of holes and crevices in the pinewood planks.
