Description
Kris and I were in Punta Gorda Florida for the funeral of her younger brother’s wife. It was a sad occasion as Kris’s sister-in-law had died in the prime of her life. Also living in southwest Florida was another of Kris’s brothers, a fence contractor named Geoff. We used the impromptu visit to the Sunshine state as a chance to visit him. On the way to Geoff’s home on Pine Island we left the mainland and crossed over Buzzard Bay via Pine Island Road which took us onto a tiny island before the bigger island and through the amazing town of Matlacha. I thought that I had been teleported back into the 1960’s, to a time of electric Kool-Aid acid and when day glow was the color scheme of choice. There was gallery after gallery including Bert’s Pine Island gallery, Island Visions, Wildchild, and Matlacha Gallery which I stopped to photograph. The bottom half of the building had been painted in a reddish pink which merged into mustard yellow at the top. I positioned my Plaubel Makina close to the ground to have the sunny Sunflower in the foreground with lime green hurricane shutter close behind. Matlacha Florida is a must see if you’re ever in the Cape Coral area.
