Description
Per the teachings of Ansel Adams, when I’m out photographing I endeavor to pre-visualize what I want an image to look like in its final version. This photograph was taken on Michigan’s Mackinac Island in the middle of winter at the iconic Grand Hotel. Its dozens of lounge chairs had been cleared from the porch. The casual observer may not notice that there is the phantom likeness of a Native American poised on the famous porch. This was what I visualized as I looked through the eye piece of my medium format camera’s Reflex Housing. In my mind the native people, who had been driven off the island, were still very much present. Photoshop allowed me to realize my pre-visualization and add the gossamer likeness of a noble chief.
