In the Winter of 2010 I was working my way home to Michigan along I75 after a mini photography vacation in Memphis Tennessee. I got off at the Portageville Missouri exit for a bite to eat. On previous trips to the south I had managed to get several photographs of Sonic Drive-Ins which I was proud of. Portageville didn’t disappoint. It also had a nifty Sonic Drive-In. Because it had rained recently there were many puddles. Wanting to catch a mirror smooth reflection of the iconic Sonic sign I set up my medium format view camera with Reala film in the parking area next to the Drive-In with a big puddle in the foreground. The camera setup included a slight tilt of the lens in order to tweak the focal plane to bring everything into crisp focus. Then, when a good looking car had positioned itself at the pick-up window, I squeezed off a couple of shots.
