Description
This Anthurium flower is native to the wet tropical mountain forests of Central and South America, with most species found in Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador. Although the Anthurium grows in many forms, it is mostly found as bushy or climbing evergreens. Its roots can hang from the forest canopy and reach all the way to the ground. The protruding spike of the flower is called a spadix, around which can be seen an inflorescent leafy base called a spathe. I had joined up with a professor friend and his students at Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton Michigan. For the students the Saturday afternoon was a course field trip but for me it was a chance to photograph some of our planet’s loveliest plants. I shot the Pink Anthurium beauty with my medium format view camera and Reala film.
