Description
West of the great city of Chicago is Naperville Illinois, one of the best kept secrets of the Midwest. If you go to the town that Money magazine graded as 'the second-best place to live in the USA' be sure to take a stroll along the Riverwalk that follows the DuPage River. A good place to start is on the east side of town where Webster Street stops at Jackson Avenue. Heading back toward town, your westward trek will soon present a lovely wooden bridge next to the charming Dandelion Fountain. Youll next see Free Speech Pavilion and the Riverwalk Amphitheater. Walking over Eagle Street youll witness Landforms Sculpture followed by another covered bridge which, upon crossing, will solve any hunger pangs you may have by a purchase at Riverwalk Eatery. To your left youll see paddlers out on Quary Lake paddling paddleboats amid flocks of geese and ducks. Continuing west youll soon be in the shadow of the towering Moser Tower with its 72 bell Millennium Carillon which treats music lovers of all ages to Summer concerts as they picnic on nearby Rotary Hill. Beyond the Carillon you can continue walking westward on the southside Riverwalk or you can do as I did in the Summer of 2010 and cross over the bridge to head back toward town. That day I had my Plaubel Makina 6 X 7 camera with me and was endeavoring to do handheld photography of the wonders of Naperville. Next came Centennial Beach, a man made beach that has to be seen to be believed. The Beach was packed that day and the sky had bouncy cumulous clouds on a tapestry of blue. I snapped off a few shots of the happy bathers and was pleased with the results. In memory of the first community of Naper Settlement I, who have a poets license, have named the photo Naper Beach. To my delight this photo was selected as the cover photo for the Naperville Park District 2012 Centennial Beach brochure.
