Artist's Description

On Royal Oak’s legendary Woodward Avenue, just south of 14 Mile Road, is a high energy night spot called Juke Box. The next town north, easily seen from the front parking lot, is Birmingham. The club plays a wide range of pop music, from country to jazz and serves an impressive variety of beers, wines, and mixed drinks. Juke Box shares the flamboyant building with a casual cuisine restaurant called Box Top which features outdoor dining, weather permitting. I wanted to shoot the image at night, after a rain storm and before the regulars showed up for an evening of fun and frolic, so the colorful club could be seen in all it’s art deco beauty. Because it was mid November, the sunset was early and gave me a window of opportunity from about 5PM to 6PM. I used my Linhof Technica on my Gitzo tripod with Reala film and a wide angle lens.
