Dubuque Iowa is a best kept secret. In fact, Iowa in general has a whole lot to enjoy and absorb. When I lived in the south suburbs of Chicago, Dubuque was a favorite weekend get away. Part of the fun was the drive there along Route 20 passing through the charming towns of Freeport, Stockton, and Galena with an occasional stop at Tapley Woods Conservation Area. Dubuque in built on a large flat plain along the mighty Mississippi with much of the city carved into the craggy hills and river bank. As I am known to do, I spent many an hour meandering through the neighborhoods looking for awesome subjects to photograph. The architecture is amazing and some of it is sculpted into the city’s rugged hills. Perhaps I had Dubuque’s famous Red Stone Inn on my mind when I spotted the Victorian home up on a hill. I had to photograph it and was delighted to see that there were concrete steps leading to it. I used T-Max film for the photoshoot which is a negative film. On the negative blacks are white...
