Description
About five miles south of Camdenton Missouri is the Ha Ha Tonka State Park.
Adjacent to Lake of the Ozarks the area has caves, sinkholes, and bluffs for the adventurous but best of all it has the Ha Ha Tonka Castle Ruins. The stone ruins are simply called ‘the castle’ and was the brainchild of business tycoon Robert McClure Snyder who purchased the area named by Native Americans as "ha ha tonka," Construction began in 1905 but sadly Mr. Snyder died in an auto accident in 1906 and the castle was then completed by his sons. The castle was used as a hotel until it was destroyed by fire in 1942. The State of Missouri purchased the castle and the grounds in 1978 and opened it to the public as a State Park. I have been to Ha Ha Tonka three times and have always been able to find a new and different angle of view to capture the iconic ruins.
