Description
I was meandering through Californias Carmel Valley along back roads when I slowed down to make a sharp left turn. Out of the corner of my eye I saw an incredible old tree barren but for air moss that hung from its withering branches. I set up my Linhof Technica camera on Gitzo tripod and got off a shot. I had a hunch that Id be wanting to print this image as a reversal, a technique some call inverting and others call it the negative print. With this technique the whites become black and the blacks become white. Once back home in Michigan I developed the film in my darkroom and then made an internegative. I made prints from both the negative and the internegative and, as expected, the reversal print made from the internegative was the stronger. Years later I had both the negative and the internegative scanned and went into Photoshop to replicate what I had done in my darkroom. It was the first time I could not even come close to getting the image I had made in my darkroom. I finally gave up and then had my darkroom print scanned by a local lab that can do huge scans. Finally, with the scan of the print, I could replicate the darkroom image.
