I went to Owen Sound Ontario and surroundings for three consecutive Winters in the late 1980’s. It was a good venue for Winter photography and I liked the tranquil vibe. I mostly photographed natural wonders like Inglis Falls and the Bruce Peninsula but on the journey to and from those venues I made a point to pass through different areas of Owen Sound to get the flavor of the community. It was on one such return trip that I meandered into a working class neighborhood and had my attention grabbed by a clothesline full of colorful clothing. With at least a foot of snow on the ground it was the last thing I expected to see. I grabbed my Mamiya 645 and quickly got off a shot. Then I noticed that the clothesline was a pulley clothesline which meant that the laundry could be put on and taken off from afar. Clever Canuck, eh!
