Description
I just happened to be in Anaheim California for a convention in September 1991. Always in search for anything that’s visually compelling, I sauntered off to Disneyland. My attention was soon grabbed by the very kitschy ‘Afternoon Avenue’ section of the park. It had been put up in March of that year and, little did I know, the temporary sub-park would come down just two months later. So I unknowingly photographed and archived one of the many Disney marketing experiments. I later learned that the park was a spin-off of a very popular TV series of the same name. I’m told that the Avenue began to decline when ‘Duck Tales’ was replaced by ‘Goof Troop’ and could have been given an RIP status when the 24 hour cable cartoon network ‘Toon Disney’ was launched in 1997. I got this shot of the sub-park’s entrance with my hand held medium format Plaubel Makina camera.
